Bearcat Beat | Students beat finals stress

Second trimester has come to an end, but that doesn't stop the students at Monroe High School (MHS).
To survive finals, FFA hosted Puppy Play Time during both lunches on Wednesday and Thursday. Their main goal was to give students "another stress-relieving activity,GÇ¥ as student, Larissa Ablutz told her peers. Students were able to go upstairs during lunch and interact with the puppies to divert their attention away from finals. As Savanah Jones said, "A lot of people went to Puppy Play Time. It enveloped the school with a more welcoming feel and definitely relieved some of the stress finals tend to exert on us.GÇ¥ The students send a huge thank you to Ms. Lowe and her FFA members for giving us this unique opportunity.
Along with Puppy Play Time, FCCLA hosted a 30-minute yoga session on Jan. 28 to relieve some of the students' stress about finals. This was in addition to its biweekly, Wednesday workout sessions as part of its Get Fit Program to "promote healthy livingGÇ¥ as Ariana Winkler informed fellow MHS students. Thank you to Ms. Chadwick and the FCCLA members for hosting an event to promote healthy living and tranquility for the students at MHS.
Today, Feb. 3, there is a Key Club meeting in Room 203 before school and after school.
Students won't want to miss it because they will be taking their yearbook photo.
MHS drama has also been hosting auditions for its upcoming play, "Band Geeks.GÇ¥ To get more information regarding the play, students can talk to Ms. Reed in Room 501.
ASB students have been working very hard to plan their annual event, Tolo. This is a dance where girls ask the guys, and they dress up according to the theme. This year, the theme is "A Night in the Jungle.GÇ¥ Students will be able to purchase Tolo tickets this week for $10 with an ASB card and $15 without. The dance will be Saturday, Feb. 7, from 8 to 11 p.m. in the commons. Make sure you come support the sophomore class. All of the money raised will fund an amalgamation of things that the class of 2017 needs throughout its high school career.
The boys basketball team will play Tuesday, Feb. 3, at home at 7:15 p.m. versus Lake Stevens, Friday, Feb. 6, at home at 7:15 p.m. versus Mount Vernon and Monday, Feb. 9, at Snohomish High School at 7:15 p.m. versus Snohomish.
The girls basketball team will play Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Lake Stevens High School at 7:15 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 6, at Mount Vernon High School at 7:15 p.m.
The boys swim team will have a match Thursday, Feb. 5, at Marysville Pilchuck High School for the Last-Chance meet at 3:30 p.m.
There are 81 school days left until graduation on June 6, and 86 full days and one half day for all students until the last day of school on June 15!
