Speaking of sports, there have been a few high school students who have had some incredible accomplishments in their athletic careers! Sydney Day has been playing soccer for 14 years, seven of which have been with her current team- Northwest Nationals. Day was the varsity goalie for MHS her freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year and also plays goalie for NWN. During this last season of varsity soccer, Day served as co-captain as well, showing that not only is she an unprecedented player but she also knows how to lead a team. While being a phenomenal goalie, Day is also an extremely versatile player and can exceed in any position on the field. Throughout her career with NWN, Day and her team have won a national championship and state championship. Due to these accomplishments, Day was contacted by Arizona State University and has verbally committed to attend next fall. In addition, she will be officially signing with ASU in February!
Cathryn Armstrong has been swimming for about 13 years and just recently signed with Michigan State.
Armstrong has had an incredible swimming career. She just recently earned first place at state for the 100- yard backstroke, becoming the first swimmer in Monroe to achieve such a title. In addition, Armstrong is not only an exceptional swimmer, but she excels academically too, earning the Scholar All-American Award in 2014. It says a lot about someone's character that they can commit themselves so strongly to a sport but also maintain notable grades. Armstrong was co-captain this year and looks forward to her future endeavors at Michigan State University! She said, "I knew I was going to sign with them when I went to visit. I loved the atmosphere and the team and was enveloped with this overwhelming feeling telling me this was home and I just knew that's where I wanted to be.
Several classes from Monroe went to watch Cathryn officially sign on November 19th in the PAC.
Congratulations to both Sydney Day and Cathryn Armstrong! Their hard work and dedication is most definitely paying off.
For many seniors, figuring out what to do after high school can be quite scary. But, as ASB advisory Mrs. Johnson reminds her students, "Look with favor upon realityGÇ¥. Remember that you are exactly where you need to be. It doesn't mean your path won't change; it just means you must embrace where you are today and live in the moment. Life is full of opportunity and surprise, so be content with who you are and know everything will happen exactly how it's meant to.
This week is the end of the grading period. Remember: only 17 days until Winter Break is December 19, Christmas is just six days later, and 114 school days and one half day until graduation (June 6)!
