Homecoming week was an insane, exciting week! To begin, we will recap the previous week's events.
Wednesday night was powder puff, an intense game of flag football between the senior and junior girls. The juniors were ahead for the large majority of the game; but, in the last four seconds, Jordan Noto scored the winning touchdown for the seniors. The crowd went wild and Noto recounted, "I will never forget the feeling/experience after scoring the winning touchdown!GÇ¥ It was a great night for the senior team, as they happily congratulated the junior girls for their amazing effort and performance.
Thursday morning was the annual coronation assembly, where the king and queen are crowned. Former queen Nicole Alexander, crowned 2014 Homecoming King Bennett Rolfson. And former king Martin Creed crowned the 2014 Homecoming Queen, Ally Barber. The 2014 king and queen then crowned the Duke, Preston Metzger, and Duchess, Kealani Suzawa. Congratulations to Ally, Bennett, Preston, and Kealani for such an amazing achievement.
Friday was the busiest day of them all. To begin, there was the pep assembly in the morning where each class
had a lip sync they performed in front of their entire school. After amalgamating the judge's scores, the juniors
had won out of all four classes! There was also the annual spirit hero, Homecoming video. Zachary Schultz noted, "That was by far the best video I have seen all four years!GÇ¥ Nice job 2014-2015 spirit heroes!
Next, was Bearcat Fair which is a large gathering of all MHS clubs, as well as some local businesses where people can come pay games, eat food, listen to music, all to get ready for the Homecoming football game! This tradition was started by Alyson Gonzalez last year who noted, "I just love the idea of getting the community together to celebrate for a common cause and I'm so happy this tradition could be carried on!GÇ¥
Bearcat Fair was a huge success! An hour before it was supposed to start, it had to get moved inside but there were a bunch of people who all joined together to make it happen. There were several community members there and everyone was having an amazing time!
Bearcat Fair was only the beginning of the excitement for the night! The Bearcats ended up winning the game against Cascade in a complete shutout, with the score of 42-0. Great job, Bearcats!
The halftime show was incredible with a spectacular performance from the band and dance cats and the court being driven around the field in cars donated by Speedway Chevrolet in Monroe.
And last but not least, Saturday was the dance! The decorations were incredible, matching the theme, "A Whole New World,' spot on.
In addition to the Homecoming week recap, there is lots of new news to be reported, as well. Bearcat Buddies is starting up again at MHS. All grades 9-12 are allowed to participate in this great tutoring and mentoring program between the high school students and 4th and 5th graders. It is once a week for an hour. If you are interested, there are packets in the main office, counseling center, and Room 806. Make sure to get the applications and volunteer packets in by Oct. 24!
In addition, ASB is in the process of planning the Veteran's Day assembly that will be held on Nov. 6. If you know anyone who wants to come and be honored, or anyone with pictures and information about their service, email mhs.veterans@gmail.com.
The MHS choir is also hosting a concert on Oct. 23 from 7-8:30 p.m. And last but not least, remember conference week is coming up, not this week, but the next from Oct. 27-31 so schools will be on early dismissal schedules.
Getting involved is vital. MHS is constantly finding new avenues to integrate the school with the community because it is important to stay unified and help one another.
