Bearcats clinch playoff berth in Mount Vernon

Down 19 -14 late in the fourth quarter, Monroe's Jesse Jarosky intercepted a Jason Mustappa pass, setting up a come-from-behind scoring drive for the Bearcats.-áJarosky intercepted two passes and broke up another with 20 seconds left in the game as the Bearcats defeated the Mount Vernon Bulldogs, 22 - 19.
Monroe running back J.J. Jerome scored two touchdowns for the Bearcats in the victory, while rushing for 94 yards on 15 carries. Shandon Mixayphone scored the other touchdown for the Bearcats as the first quarter came to a close.
Mount Vernon proved to be a worthy opponent as they led most of the game.-áThe Bulldogs offense controlled the clock with a grinding ground game.
For the second week in a row the Bearcat defense bent but did not break in a gritty, hard-fought battle.
After the game Head Coach Brett Jay praised the team for their comeback effort.-áThe Bearcats improved their record to 5 -2 league and 7 -2 overall clinching a playoff spot.
