In a hard-fought game, the Bearcats came up short in Friday night's contest against Kamiak in Monroe.
Monroe experienced an unforeseen adversity when both their first- and second-team quarterbacks were knocked out of the game due to injury.
Early in the first quarter while playing linebacker on defense, Nick Dimonda, Monroe's second-team quarterback, was helped off the field as a result of an injury to his right knee. Despite his absence, the Bearcats filled his void.
It was in the third quarter that Andrew Zimmerman, Monroe's first-team quarterback, was helped off the field with an injury to his right knee. Monroe was leading at the time, 23 -21. Having scored Monroe's first touchdown of the evening on a 14-yard run in the first quarter, Zimmerman completed 14 for 19 passes for 204 yards and another touchdown throw to Zach Zimmerman before he left the game. Once Zimmerman went down, Monroe's offense basically stalled. Freshman quarterback Kinalu Batongbacal replaced Zimmerman, completing only two passes for Monroe as the Kamiak defense stiffened.
"Any time you lose your starting quarterback ' especially in our offense ' it set us back a little bitGÇ¥ Jay said. "But I'm really impressed with our freshman that came in ' didn't blink an eye and stood right there. He did a good job.GÇ¥
