Dreadnought brewing opens

Dreadnought Brewing (16726 146th St. S.E., Suite 153), in Monroe, celebrated its grand opening last week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 25.

More than 100 guests packed the new family-friendlytaproom, near the Fryelands. Members of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and the Monroe City Council were in attendance, along with Monroe Mayor Geoffrey Thomas, who gave a brief presentation before cutting the ribbon.-á

"This the largest number of people that I've had at a ribbon cutting,GÇ¥ Thomas said to the crowd. "I appreciate you supporting small business ' and the beer probably had something to do with that, too. It is wonderful having another business open up here in town.GÇ¥

Thomas acknowledged the military aspect of the operation. Between owner Steve Huskey and his co-owners, each branch of the United States Military is represented at Dreadnought. Steve and his wife, Anne both represent the United States Army: Steve with 15 years of service and Anne with 10. Steve's father James represents the United States Marine Corps, and co-owner Kristi Browne served in the Air Force for 10 years.-á

The Navy is represented by kitchen manager and co-owner Sandra Jordan, whose husband, Sean, was a chief petty officer. Sean, a professional photographer working for the Seattle Police Department, helps with marketing, photography and menu design.

Other co-owners include Clinton Langevin, Kyle McFarland and Firefighter Heath Clark.

Currently, the kitchen serves paninis, sub sandwiches and salads. It expects to add pizza to the menu in the near future, and will implement an outdoor dining area. It specializes in all different kinds of brews, including IPAs, imperial stout, lager and blond ale.

"We have a well-balanced selection of beers,GÇ¥ Sean said. "There's something for everyone.GÇ¥

And teetotalers will not be disappointed. Dreadnought serves home-brewed sarsaparilla, made using Steve's grandmother's 100-year-old recipe.-á

Steve hopes to eventually host brewing contests for home brewers interested in some friendly competition. The winner's brew would be served at Dreadnought as a guest brew, and the proceeds would be donated to a local charity.-á

Dreadnought is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
