Spring is nearly here, and with the later hours of sunlight, activities begin to take an active, outdoor theme. In coming weeks, the East County Senior Center will host a bevy of activities outside of the center.
On Feb. 19, there will be a trip to the Bellevue Arts Museum, and Feb. 20 the center's bus will shuttle a few to enjoy dinner at Azteca Mexican Restaurant in Kirkland. Many more excursions will happen throughout this month and into the summer. Contact Program Director Jacob McGee at (360) 794-6359.
If you are planning a road trip of your own, why not take advantage of an opportunity to pay a little less for your car insurance? ECSC is the place to be to take the AARP driving safety course, March 12 and 13 at 5 p.m. You can save 10 to 20 percent on your auto insurance by taking this refresher course on driving safety. The two-day course costs $12 for AARP members and $14 for all others; call (360) 794-6359 to register early.
Should you want to stay in town, the East County Senior Center has many ongoing festivities for you to enjoy. Among them is "chairGÇ¥ yoga on Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11 a.m.; a small donation of $2 to $10 would be great. Give Dorothy Hiestand a call for more information at (425) 408-1824.
Every second and fourth Monday at 8:30 a.m., come to ECSC for Reiki Healing. Reiki is a Japanese "laying on of handsGÇ¥ technique used the world over for stress reduction and relaxation.
Tai chi classes are offered at ECSC on Wednesdays starting at 10:15 a.m., taught by Nancy Lucero. This class is so popular that classes are presently filled, but if you are interested in a beginner's class, give Nancy a call at (360) 794-6359 and get on the waiting list. Classes are $10.
New for the Boomerang programs at ECSC, on April 16 at 6:30 p.m., ECSC will host a financial strategy class where you can learn techniques to invest your money wisely. This Boomerang event is led by Chelea Kent, an experienced financial professional with Edward Jones Investment.
On Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m., come and learn the basics of massage with Richard Oliver, who has had a massage practice for 10 years. Also on the first and third Tuesday evenings, as part of the Boomerang outreach, Richard will be on-hand to give 10-minute chair massages for only $3.
