Focus on Seniors: Geocaching, anyone?

By Holly Glen Gearhart
Are you up for a treasure hunt in the park? Working in teams while using GPS technology? Join other boomers for an evening of geocaching. If you don't know what geocaching is, think about the childhood game of hide and seek, played on a wider, techno-hippie scale. Boomerang will present their first class on this modern game that is played the world over.
Geocaching involves finding a cache of hidden treasure by using a number of clues set forth by another player in combination with the global position coordinates of the cache, and/or a handful of word clues.
Using handheld GPS locators, the players record their findings in a logbook and sometimes online, then return the treasured cache, usually taking a small trinket from the cache and leaving one of their own for others to find.
More information about geocaching can be found at www.geocaching.com/
More offerings include an art making presentation on June 25; join local muralist David Hose and learn some tips for creating art. July 2, plan for Baseball and Brew, and on July 9 learn about gluten-free cooking and baking.
Gluten is a protein product of wheat, oat, rye and barley. A small (but growing) number of people have found they do not tolerate gluten in their digestive systems causing gas and other disorders. This course will give you some tasty options for making meals that are gluten-free.
More cooking, outings, art and baseball and brew tastings are on the calendar for Boomers this summer. To find out more, pick up a copy of the recent Boomerang at ECSC and watch this column. All Boomerang activities are presented at the center on Tuesday evenings, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
