"Jerry,GÇ¥ as he was known to friends and customers, died peacefully at Adagio Adult Family Home in Everett.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Tina, and their five children: Steve (Irene, deceased), Sue (Paul) Ligon, Dan (Linda), Dorothy (Ray), and Joan (David) Thorson. Jerry will also be mourned by his six grandchildren: Jennifer (Charlie) Rowe, David Streutker, Christian John "C.J." Streutker, Travis Streutker, Kristina Thorson, and Daniel Thorson, as well as four great-grandchildren, Will, Abe, Margaret Rowe and Elliana Streutker.
Born in Oak Harbor, Jerry was the oldest child of Lambert and Sadie Streutker. He was predeceased by his three younger sisters.
A life-long member of the Christian Reformed Church, Jerry met Tina at a church Young People's event.-á Early on in their courtship, Jerry was drafted into the Army. He served nearly three years as a mechanic in the 96th Infantry Division and participated in the invasions of Leyte and Okinawa.
Upon his return from Army service, Jerry and Tina married and began their life together in Oak Harbor. Within a few years, they moved to Monroe, where Jerry opened Valley Garage, a car repair shop on South Lewis Street. The business later became Valley Farm Equipment and went on to serve local farmers for nearly 50 years.
During his many years in business, Jerry served on the Chamber of Commerce and was an active member of the Monroe Kiwanis Club for several decades. Jerry was honored for his leadership in putting up American flags along the streets of downtown Monroe on patriotic holidays. His volunteer service also included making and selling ice cream bars at the Evergreen State Fair, selling fireworks for the 4th of July, and collecting food donations in the fall.
Jerry's passions included woodworking, gardening and salmon fishing. His and Tina's gardens were enjoyed by many driving by the family home in the Tualco Valley.
A memorial service will be held at New Hope Fellowship, 1012 W. Main St., Monroe, on Friday, April 25 at 1 p.m. A graveside service for the family will be held prior to burial at the Fircrest Cemetery in Oak Harbor on Saturday, April 26.
