Letter to the Editor | Kids, community benefit from bond

Our community should support the renewal of the school bond for so many compelling reasons. My top drivers are that every school gets improvement and the funds help to bring our district more on par with surrounding schools that continue to drain our population of students.
The tax rate remaining the same, along with matching funds of $21.3 million from the state, make our dollars stretch even further to modernize mechanical systems and improve the safety of our children.
These improvements will save money in the long run, as well, through efficiencies gained. New fields and improvements to existing field space at the high school is past due. Monroe High School is the only regional high school without ballfields on the main campus. This is important to many students and families and can also be a far-reaching asset to community-based teams.
[Passing the bond shows] pride in our schools also drives higher property values in the district.
Vote YES and then mail or drop off your ballot. Our children, your community and our collective pocket book will be glad you did.
