Monroe junior gets WIAA nod for basketball play

Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) staff selected Monroe High School junior Trenton Newhouse as one of the organization's Athletes of the Week last week.-á

A community member nominated Newhouse for his achievements in basketball, setting a school record with 11 three-pointers and a total 35 points against the Mariner High School Tritons. He also scored 11 points earlier that week against Kamiak.

In recognition of their accomplishment, each Athlete of the Week winner receives a congratulatory letter from WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese, a commemorative WIAA State Athlete of the Week T-shirt and a certificate.

Winners are also posted to the WIAA website at www.wiaa.com.
