The Monroe Rod and Gun Club will host its annual free kids fishing derby 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 3.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will soon add 1,500 fish at Dale Reiner’s pond in Monroe, located just past Paula’s Wine Knot in the 19800 block of 168th Street Southeast, said Dale Helgeson with the Monroe Rod and Gun Club.
The kids fishing derby is open to children 12 and under. While free to attend, children are asked to bring their own fishing gear. There will be free hot dogs and soda provided.
Young fishers can earn prizes for catching the largest fish during the derby. Prizes for first-, second- and third-place finishers will be provided in three age divisions: 0-6, 7-9 and 10-12.
