A closure of the eastbound SR 522 fly-over ramp to eastbound U.S. 2 will remain in effect through mid-October. The ramp, which was scheduled to reopen Wednesday, Oct. 1, will remain closed through 5 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Drivers can still access eastbound U.S. 2 by traveling a short distance to the end of SR 522 where a signalized intersection allows drivers to turn east or west onto U.S. 2.
During the past month, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation have been repairing the bridge deck and placing new concrete as part of the SR 522 widening project. Over the weekend, crews poured new concrete approach slabs for the bridge. The new concrete slabs need an additional week to cure before traffic can be allowed back on the bridge. In addition, bridge deck waterproofing must also be completed.
The ramp was originally closed Tuesday, Sept. 2, due to its proximity to the SR 522 179th Ave. S.E. bridge. The work zone of that bridge is too close to the U.S. 2 off-ramp to allow drivers to safely use the exit. In order to maintain a safe work zone, traffic was temporarily shifted to the new bridges over 164th St. S.E. and 179th Ave. S.E.
There are other nightly lane and ramp closures associated with this work. Check the Snohomish County construction update report frequently for updated information.
