Sultan loses in one-point heartbreaker on Senior Night

Sultan Turk junior 6' Antonio Rivas looks for a lane through the Archbishop Murphy defense in the Turks' maddening 53 - 52 loss to the Wildcats before a loud home crowd Thursday.
The Turks controlled the first half with a fluid defense and a high wire offense. Sultan opened the third period by pouring in eight unanswered points. Murphy clawed back to tie the score late in the fourth quarter, holding the Turks to only six points. The game slipped away when the Turks turned over the ball twice in the last minute, allowing the Wildcats to score the go-ahead point. The third-seeded Turks will travel to Lynden to play the current State champs in the first round 2A District Tourney. Sultan stands 9 - 5 and 10 - 10 on the season.
The Turks celebrated Senior Night before the-ágame. The large crowd-áacknowledged the senior players, Marchus Hall, Sam Cotterill, Brock VandenEkart, Corbin McQuarrie, Steven Branham and student manager Nichole Cotterill. The Sultan Cheer Class of 2013 included Violeta Ortega, Jose' Garcia and Orelys Chavez.
