Sultan Sportsmen's Club funding youth conservation camp scholarships

The Sultan Sportsmen's Club will award two full scholarships to the 2016 Washington Youth Conservation Camp, a weeklong summer camp held at the Camp Moran Environmental Learning Center on Orcas Island.

The scholarships are available to youth 12-16, and will be awarded to one Sultan School District girl and boy. Participating youth must be 12 by July 9, 2016, and not turn 17 prior to the start of the camp. Girls' camp takes place July 17GÇô23 and boys' camp from July 24GÇô30. Interested youth should apply by submitting a letter of application that includes their name, address, age and a single-page letter answering the question, "Why I want to go to the Youth Conservation Camp.GÇ¥

The Washington State Youth Conservation Camp has been educating youth about conservation and preserving the environment for 64 years. The camp features a variety of outdoor classes in subjects like ecology, archery, water flow and fish, fly casting, water safety, wilderness first aid, marine biology, firearm safety, survival and leadership.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the San Juan Islands, the camp provides hands-on instruction provided by volunteer educators and conservationists with extensive experience in the different fields of study merged at the camp.-á -á

Letters of application are due by June 1 and can be turned in to the main offices at Sultan Middle School and Sultan High School at 301 High Ave. and 13715 310th Ave. S.E., respectively. For applications sent in the mail, specify Conservation Scholarship Application on the envelope.-á -á
