For parents who would prefer to take kids trick or treating in the safest way possible, four churches are joining forces once again to give them a way to do it.
"Trunk or Treat" was started six years ago by four Monroe church including Morning Star Lutheran, Monroe United Methodist, Church of Our Saviour Episcopal, and the Congregational United Church of Christ.
On Halloween, the members of the churches line up their cars along Lewis Street and hand out candy from their trunks, wearing silly costumes and having almost as much fun as the kids.-áEach trick-or-treater gets a candy treat from the trunks, and also a special gift bag with a toy inside from each of the churches.-áFree hot dogs, cider and hot chocolate are also offered.
The trunks are open and the fun starts at 5 p.m. and ends about 7 p.m. so that families can trick-or-treat in their neighborhoods as well.
