On December 9, we held the Inter High event where the other seven schools of the league sent their representatives to our school. The ASB officers and selected students were able to run the gathering well, as they welcomed the students from the other schools. They played games, had an ugly sweater contest, went on a school tour, and most importantly, discussed community service and giving in the holiday season.
The Inter High theme was "Giving,GÇ¥ and Ruby Zamora was able to talk about what she had been contributing to our community through Sultan High School.
For years, the ASL classes have been participating in the Giving Tree. They have been assisting two less fortunate families each year with food and gifts for their holiday seasons. As a class, they would vote on which two families to help.
Last year, after hearing about five families' living situations, Ruby decided that she couldn't pick onlytwo families to help, so she decided to help all five of them.
Ruby got the whole school involved by making it a class competition. Each class had a paper Christmas tree with lots of paper ornaments on them. All of the ornaments had an item written on them, and the students would take ornaments home and bring the item to school to give to the families. Each of the classes would try to get as many ornaments on their tree as they could. "It all worked out so well so it gave me confidence to do it again this year knowing that it wouldn't fail. I know that even though our school is small, we have big hearts and want to help our community.GÇ¥
Thanks to Ruby, we were able to help five families in need this year.
Principal Nesting was also able to participate, as she decided to provide for a whole family.
Also, a rare occasion was that this week's Turk of the Week award went to a staff member. Around this time of the year, Ms. Andrea Fuller swings by the Giving Tree stand to pick up all of the ornaments that were not taken by anyone. Thank you for being a great example for our students, Ms. Fuller!
The Sultan High School Music Program held their annual Soup Supper, and they had quite a turn out. The choir, varsity choir, concert choir, and jazz band all performed, and the middle school band also performed along with the high school band members, filling up the whole stage. In between the performances, homemade pies were being auctioned off for the band parents' association to fund the music program.
The students of Sultan High School are on break until January 5, and will be getting ready to finish up the rest of the semester! We have a great opportunity for afterschool tutoring available with transportation provided. Make sure to check into room 202, the homeroom, before 3 p.m. to reserve your seat on the 4 p.m. bus.
During lunches, the senior parents will be at school every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the month of January, so get your spot reserved for the Senior Trip.
