Eatonville Town Council Feb 24 Meeting Recap

Continuing unfinished business from its previous meeting, the Eatonville Town Council at its Feb. 24 gathering passed Resolution 2020-F, authorizing the mayor to sign an agreement with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department to provide special services.

Specialized responses include Major Crime Investigation, Canine (K9) Services, Hazardous Devices (bomb squad), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Forensic Investigator, Internal Affairs Investigator and Marine Services (SCUBA).

Under the agreement, Eatonville will pay for these services on a per capita basis.

Other business: The Eatonville Town Council also passed Resolution 2020-G, authorizing an investment of town funds in a local government investment pool.

A first reading of Ordinance 2020-1 – authorizing the mayor to renew a cable television franchise between Eatonville and Comcast – was undertaken.

A proclamation designating March 6, 2020, as George H. Smallwood Day was passed. The former mayor of Eatonville served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. The proclamation lauds his “extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty…in action against Japanese forces on Iwo Jim, Volcano Islands, on March 6, 1945.”
