A teenage girl from the town of Eatonville won big at Pierce County Fair in Graham last weekend with chickens and baked goods.
Katie Johnston, 13, entered some of the chickens she raised herself and the banana muffin at the Pierce County Fair.
Johnston had a number of chickens on display and was proud to show them off.
There were many chickens and other poultry that were much bigger than Johnston's. However, Size does not matter, however, in judging. Instead, judges check for defects, the overall appearance of the animal, how healthy they are and how well-trained the chickens are.
Johnston has been entering her chickens at the fair for about six years.
All of her hard work has paid off. For the first time, Johnston won a trophy for her chickens. She is also the Pierce County Fair’s Intermediate Grand Champion in poultry fitting and showing. In the poultry costume contest, Katie won first place.
Johnston stated that she had also entered her banana muffin at the Pierce County Fair, which also won first place.
