County Counci amends agreement with Sheriff's Dep't

At its July 20 meeting, the Pierce County Council ratified an amendment to the collective bargaining agreement with the Pierce County Captain’s Association representing employees of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. The amendment grants an internal alignment base wage adjustment of .5 percent, in addition to the previously agreed upon 2021 cost-of-living adjustment.

The council passed a resolution recognizing the 31st anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and proclaiming July 26 as “American’s with Disabilities Act Day” in Pierce County.

The council passed a resolution proclaiming the week of July 25-31 as “Paint the Town Purple Week” in Pierce County. The event is a chance to raise awareness for the American Cancer Society and its Relay For Life. The 20th anniversary of the Central Pierce Relay For Life will kick off with a car parade at 11 a.m. Saturday at Franklin Pierce High School Stadium.

The Pierce County Council is now holding in-person meetings, following state guidance that meetings could resume. The council still offers the public the chance to join meetings remotely.

Those attending meetings at the downtown Tacoma location will notice some changes, including bench seating replaced with individual chairs. In addition, there are two seating areas: one people who are vaccinated and one for those who are not. Those who are not vaccinated are asked to wear a mask and socially distance while in Council chambers, per public health guidelines.
