Letter to the Editor: Timely rescue response depends on South Pierce County EMS levy passage

It seems that emergency services are needed now more than ever.  No matter where you live you could need to call 911 for an emergency. South Pierce Fire and Rescue serves a large area of South Pierce County.

I live in Lacamas, which is in the Roy area. I have seen South Pierce Fire and Rescue come into our gated community many times to help a homeowner with medical aid including my wife. Because the citizens of this fire district have previously approved a levy for emergency services, the EMS aid car met the time requirement for arriving on her call.  Without this re-authorization, EMS services would take longer due to fewer personnel and equipment to handle the call volume.

The fire district is asking the citizens of South Pierce Fire and Rescue to re-approve the EMS Levy for the next 6 years. This is not a new tax! This is a re-authorization of the previous tax. The maximum that can be charged is .50 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation.
