164,000-plus checked out Fantasy Lights

Attendance at Pierce County Parks and Recreation's 21st annual Fantasy Lights exhibit that ended Jan. 1 was up 4 percent over the previous year. During the five week nightly event that began Nov. 26, 25,181 vehicles and 164,549 spectators took the driving tour through the illuminated displays at Lake Spanaway Park, according to the parks department. Admission cost $14 per vehicle. The event featured thousands of lights on more than 300 displays, some of them animated. "It's been an honor to host the event each year. We hope people put us on the calendar again next December,GÇ¥ said Tony Tipton, Parks and Recreation's director. Fantasy Lights reputedly is the largest holiday drive-through display in the Northwest.
