Daffodil Parade hits the streets

Floats, bands and other marching and riding units will join the Daffodil Festival royalty for the 80th annual Grand Floral Parade this Saturday. Among the festival princesses from 24 high schools in Pierce County are Annelise Litzenberger of Eatonville, Amy Bernstein of Graham-Kapowsin and Noelle Kaku of Bethel. The parade will wind through four cities, starting in Tacoma at 10:15 a.m., Puyallup at 12:45, Sumner at 2:30 and Orting at 5. It will be filmed in Puyallup and aired on KONG-TV at 7:30 Saturday night. The festival originated in 1934 as a celebration of the agriculture industry in the Puyallup and Sumner areas. It grew to include the parade as a celebration involving thousands of spectators and participants from communities throughout Pierce County and beyond.
