Eatonville driving for float in Daffodil Parade

Fund-raising has begun for Eatonville's community float in the 81st annual Daffodil Festival Grand Floral Parade. As in past years, community members are joining forces to make the parade entry possible and preserve Eatonville's place in future festivals. Without a float in the parade next month, the community wouldn't be eligible to have a princess and participate in next year's festival. The float is a requirement of the Daffodil Festival. Justine Thornton, who is helping spearhead the float project, can be contacted at Eatonville Dance Center 360-832-5555. Princesses are chosen from each of the 24 high schools in Pierce County to participate in the festival. Emily Saito is Eatonville High's princess this year. The parade will be staged April 5 in Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting. It's expected to have more than 150 entries, including floats, marching bands and mounted units. Eatonville's float has earned distinction in past years. The 2012 float won the Queen's Award, one of the honors presented by the festival to top parade entries.
