Freddie Fest features cars, chili and family fun

By Pat Jenkins The Dispatch Cars, chili, vendors and family activities will be the draws for Freddie Fest this Saturday in Frederickson. Organized by the Frederickson-Clover Creek Community Council, the festival is a fund-raiser for Friends of Stan and Joan Cross park, a non-profit group working with Pierce County to develop a proposed new park that would bear the couple's name. Admission to Freddie Fest is free, but fees for entering the car show will benefit the park project. The festival will be staged from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of Sound Life Church at 3425 176th St. E. Along with the classic cars that will be on display, organizers promise a corporate chili challenge, pony rides, a playground and other activities for children, live entertainment, and a variety of vendors. "Early arrivals will be treated to coffee and donuts,GÇ¥ said John Marshall, a board member and part of the all-volunteer events committee for the community council. A variety of food will be on sale from vendors. And after judging in the chili challenge, the chili will be sold for a nominal fee, Marshall said. Another feature will be a microchip clinic for pets, sponsored by VCA Pacific Avenue Animal Hospital. Proceeds will go to charity. The community council promotes the Frederickson area through community-building activities and support of industrial growth in the area.
