Two men who authorities say roughly tried to rip off the Walmart store in Spanaway last summer have been nabbed with some extra help from the public. The Pierce County Sheriff Department, acting on tips it received through Tacoma-Pierce County Crimestoppers, arrested the suspects at the home of one of them. Authorities asked for help finding out who tried to defraud the store on Aug. 7 and, after being caught in the act, shoved and injured several customers - including a pregnant woman - who were in their way as they ran out of the store. The Sheriff Department reported that Jeremy Crahan and Ray Williams were identified by "numerous" tipsters who called the Crimestoppers hotline after a photo of the suspects from surveillance cameras and a description of them were made public online and through the news media. The men were arrested about two months later on suspicion of strong-arm robbery and assault by deputies at Crahan's home on 217th Street Court East. in Spanaway. Crahan was wearing the same baseball hat seen in the store's video images. He told deputies he planned on turning himself in, according to authorities. Deputies found Williams hiding behind a door in the residence. He admitted to being with Crahan at the Walmart and that Crahan had told him they were going "to get some easy money," a Sheriff Department spokesman said. The men allegedly took several hardware items from the shelves, placed them in a shopping bag and attempted to return the items for cash. They fled when confronted by store security personnel, according to authorities who reported that Williams said he pushed the pregnant woman but it wasn't intentional.
