Two days of buckin' and bustin' in Roy

Airborne steers and cowboys like the pair pictured here will be among the sights and bronco-bustin' entertainment during the Roy Pioneer Rodeo Sept. 5-6. The event, which is staged twice a year (this year's first show was a two-day affair in June), attracts participants and spectators from several western states and Canada to the tiny Pierce County town. Gates will open at 12 p.m. both days, followed at 1:30 by competition in steer wrestling, bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing and team roping. The rodeo arena is located just west of State Route 507 at 8710 Higgins Greig Road.
