No serious injuries for deputy, truck driver in crash

A Pierce County Sheriff Department patrol car was heavily damaged but the deputy driving it apparently escaped serious injury in a collision with a box-style delivery truck in the Graham area.

The collision occurred March 22 at 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of 264th Street East and Orting-Kapowsin Highway East. According to the Sheriff Department, the truck was westbound on 264th when it failed to stop at a stop sign and drove in front of the patrol car, which struck the side of the cargo box. The deputy was trapped inside the vehicle until responders pried open a door.

The officer, whose name wasn’t released, reported suffering neck pain and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the truck wasn’t injured, officials said.
