Cruisers on All-SPSL basketball roster

Eight Eatonville Cruisers, headed  by first-teamers Sammie Swartout and Brooks Moeller, have been named to the All-2A South Puget Sound League basketball teams for the 2016-17 season.
Swartout, a junior, and Moeller, a senior, were first-team selections.
It's the second straight season of first-team all-league honors for Swartout and Moeller, and in different leagues. A year ago, their teams competed in the 1A Evergreen League. Eatonville moved to the SPSL this season.
They also were All-SPSL choices last fall in other sports – Moeller as a tight end and defensive back in football, and Swartout in volleyball.
Five of Eatonville’s 2016-17 all-league basketball honors for players went to the  girls team, whose coach, Jess VandeerWeerdt, was named Coach of the Year after leading the Cruisers to a second-place finish in the SPSL’s Sound Division and a 17-7 overall mark that included two games in the West Central District playoffs.
Joining Swartout and VanderWeerdt as recipients of conference honors were second-team choices Madison Jumper and Natasha Henley, and Jaelin Hotz and McKenzie Jumper in the honorable mention category.
With Swartout and three of the other five honored players being underclassmen (Henley is the only senior), Eatonville has a touted nucleus for next season. McKenzie Jumper and Hotz are sophomores, and Madison Jumper is a junior.
Along with Moeller, all of Eatonville’s All-SPSL picks are seniors. Ray Springer is on the second team, and Carson Hutchings received honorable mention.
Eatonville finished sixth in the Sound Division with a 4-10 record (8-12 overall).
Springer, Hutchings and Madison Jumper also earned All-Evergreen recogntion a year ago.
Rick Comer, of Division champion Renton, was named the SPSL's Coach of the Year among boys’ teams.
The SPSL's Most Valuable Players both are both from River Ridge – Caitlin Yenne (junior) for the girls, and Jordan Skipper-Brown (senior) for the boys.
