Spanaway driver among the injured in head-on crash

Three motorists, including a Spanaway man, suffered injuries in a head-on collision between two vehicles on State Route 162 last Sunday.

None of the injuries were reported to be life-threatening, but no other details on the victims were released.

The State Patrol reported the crash occurred when a pickup truck driven by the Spanaway man, 24, crossed the centerline while headed west on the two-lane road

The 21-year-old driver of another vehicle approaching in the opposite lane tried to avoid the oncoming truck by steering onto the highway's shoulder, but overcrorrected and crossed over into the westbound lane, where the vehicles collided. The truck wound up underneath the other car. The driver of the latter wasn't injured, but his two passengers were taken to hopsitals, as was the Spanaway man.

The road was blocked at the accident scene for more than six hours, troopers said. An investigation is continuing.
