Another U.S. 2 crash near Reptile Zoo sends two to hospital

A vehicle collision near the Reptile Zoo between Monroe and Sultan brought traffic to a standstill and sent two people to the hospital.
At approximately 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision at U.S. 2 near Milepost 17. The highway was closed for several hours to allow the Washington State Troopers to investigate.
A 23 year old male from Tacoma, heading westbound in a 1997 Honda Civic, was passing eastbound vehicles when he collided head-on with a 2007 Audi A6 that was heading east.
The driver of that vehicle, a 52 year old male from Fresno, California, was taken to Valley General Hospital. The driver of the Civic was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.
Both vehicles were totaled. At the time of this writing, we have no furtherinformation regarding the condition of the injured.
It is believed that alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in causing this collision.
This collision is the third major traffic accident in the same area of U.S. 2 since June.
