Henry John Aissen Groeneveld – April 29, 1954 to January 30, 2018

Henry Groeneveld was born of German immigrant heritage on April 29, 1954 in Everett, Washington. He was the youngest of five children raised in Sultan, WA. His wonderful and innocent childhood, surrounded with the sounds and aromas of farm life amid the seasonal changes, lived in his heart.

Henry began milking cows at age eleven, played the trombone and participated in basketball throughout early school years. During his high school years, he excelled in academics and enjoyed Drama Club, graduating in 1972 from Sultan High School. Henry graduated from Washington State University (Go Cougs!), Multnomah School of the Bible in Oregon, and Bethel Theological Seminary in Minnesota.

Realizing a childhood dream of becoming a mailman, he served the Snohomish Community as a U.S. Rural Postal Carrier for over twenty-five years. Henry traveled to Scotland with the Presbyterian Church Choir and to Thailand on a Mission trip with New Hope Fellowship. Henry was a faithful servant within the Monroe BRO-Prison Ministry. He cherished his European travels and a trip to Disneyland with his children.

Later in life, his marriage to Linda Kelly opened opportunities to travel and serve God. Together they experienced baptism in the Jordan River during their trip: “Back to Jerusalem,” and served with Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child in various Processing Centers throughout the United States. Members of Snohomish Community Church, they served together in Awanas and Adult Life Groups.

Henry J. Groeneveld is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his brother, Wiard; and sisters, Gretal and Adelind; his son, Michael, and his three daughters: Elizabeth, Kathleen, Christina and their families. He is also survived by Linda’s children: Nathaniel, Andrew, Abigail and their families. Together, with ten adorable grandchildren and numerous relatives, Henry’s heart overflowed with joy.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, March 11, 3:00 P.M. at Snohomish Community Church, 13622 Dubuque Rd., Snohomish, WA 98290.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be donated in Henry’s name to: Samaritan’s Purse and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
