This past week, we noticed City of Monroe crews placing beautiful, large landscaping boulders in the flower beds of the medians at the intersections of West Main Street with South Sams Street and South Lewis Street with McDougall Street. A wonderful idea which should reduce the number of instances of people deciding to cut across the flower beds and leaving tire tracks through the beds. The beds at the intersection on Main [street] must have been repaired four to five times last year, no thanks to these goofballs.
But alas, today, just days after the rocks were installed, we noticed a tire track across the bed at the intersection on Main [street], narrowly missing the new rock there, and also tire tracks across the roundabout island next to the Chevrolet dealership.
[And today] my wife ... noticed an SUV sitting on top of the two new rocks at the west end of the intersection of Main and Sams [streets]. Yep, high-centered. No police yet, but they certainly must have been called. As I said, unbelievable!
Kudos to the city for a better idea, but some people seem to think that destroying public property is OK. Maybe the city should consider a couple of other solutions; traffic [cameras] and spike strips come to mind to help find the culprits. GÇô Larry Imbeau, Monroe
