Nick Both of Everett, WA, passed away on August 4, 2018, at the age of 97. He was born October 27, 1920, to Albert and Maggie Both in St. Anthony, North Dakota.
In 1928, Nick’s family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, eventually settling near Fox Valley. Nick quit school at the age of 16 to help the family by working on ranches and later for the Canadian Pacific Railway. In 1941 he and a friend rode the rails to Vancouver, B.C. In June of 1943, while visiting his parents in Alberta, Nick joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Edmonton. After boot camp, Nick was transferred to Vancouver, B.C., where he was in charge of the Dakota Aircraft Section C-47 and C-54 Parts Department. Nick met Molly Miller in Vancouver, British Columbia at the Victory Hall during World War II. They were married in 1944 in Chilliwack, moving to Monroe, Washington in 1949 where they raised their three children.
Nick was a talented jack of all trades – a farmer, mill worker, journeyman pipefitter, salesman, real estate agent, a brazing instructor at Lockheed Shipyard, and he started a company with a friend to build homes. He could fix just about anything. He was a very hard worker and made sure his children new how to provide for their own futures. Nick and Molly loved to dance Polkas and spend time with friends and family.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Maggie Both, sisters Katie Andersen, Veronica Kilgore, Lillian Whispel and brothers Eddie Both and Albin Both, and his wife of 73 years, Molly Both.
Nick is survived by his sisters Annette Barr, Beverly Both, and brother John Both, son Ted (Lucie) Both, daughters Anita Both and Shirley Hagen. He is also affectionately remembered by grandson Norman (Sheila) Hagen and granddaughter Nikki (Mike) Fleming, and his great grandchildren Malia Velez, Devanie Fleming, Kasen Fleming, Henry Box, and Natalie Hagen.
The family would like to thank Brookdale at Arbor Place for all their care and help and Graceful Living Adult Family Home for a peaceful and loving environment for his last days. There will be no services. Since Nick volunteered at the Marysville Food Bank, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to them at 4150 88th St. NE, Marysville, WA 98270.
