Performing arts group raises money to offset financial hardship

Sky Performing Arts, Monroe's local, volunteer-driven community theater group, is currently fundraising to help ensure that the show will, indeed, be able to go on.
Sky Performing Arts (17072 Tye St. S.E.) was created about a decade ago when the board members from two separate performance groups, Take a Bough Productions and Off the Wall Theater, decided to form one community theater. Sky Performing Arts presents two shows per year, including musicals, comedies, dramas and kids' shows.
Currently experiencing some financial challenges, the group is attempting to garner some support so that it can continue producing theatrical entertainment for all of East Snohomish County to enjoy.-á The money will help pay for scripts, music and other production costs.
The theater is planning to feature a production of "Pajama GameGÇ¥ this fall, which will be performed at the Wagner Performing Arts Center (639 W. Main St.) in Monroe. "Pajama GameGÇ¥ is a musical based on a 1950s novel-á "7-1/2 Cents,GÇ¥ by author Richard Bissell. Last year, Sky Performing Arts partnered with the Monroe Concert Band and Stanza Performing Arts to put on its successful production of "Hello Dolly,GÇ¥ which ran for nine performances last September.
"It was a big hit and crowd-pleaser last year,GÇ¥ said Sky Performing Arts President Alexandra Clark.
In the winter, the Sky Performing Arts produces a 1940s USO-style comedic show called "In the Mood,GÇ¥ which features a 17-piece big band, several vocalists and comedians.
