Cruisers fall to league leading Warriors

On Friday last week, the Eatonville Cruiser boys’ basketball team would travel to Lakewood to take on the SPSL 2A East division leading Clover Park Warriors for the first time this season.

The Warriors came into the game scoring an average of 67 points per game.  The Cruiser defense would have a great night and only hold them to 45, but the Warrior defense played well also and limited the Cruisers to 40 points to take the 45-40 win.

The Cruisers stayed close with the Warriors in the first quarter, only trailing 6-4 at the half. Kyle Cox and Tyrese McElyea would each score buckets for Eatonville.

The turning point in the game would come in the 2nd quarter. The Warrior offense would surge and outscore the Cruisers 16-7 to take an 11 point lead into halftime at 22-11.

The Cruisers put up a hard fight in the 3rd quarter powered by Jakob Lucht’s two 3 pointers he would drain. Kaden Foster would kick in 4 of his own to keep the Cruisers within 2 two at 30-28.

The final quarter would see Cameron Hatler and Jacob Knoblauch working the boards down low for the Cruisers and pulling down crucial rebounds to keep the Warrior offense from scoring on those possessions. Unfortunately, the Cruisers would have a few key turnovers down the stretch that would only allow them to pull within 5 and would drop the contest 45-40.

Jakob Lucht would lead Eatonville with 12 points, 9 of them coming in the second half. Kaden Foster would contribute with 9 second-half points as well to finish with 10 points overall.

Scoring Stats: J. Lucht 12 pts, K. Foster 10 points, C. Hatler 6 pts, J. Knoblauch 5 pts, R. McIlraith 3 pts, K. Cox 2 pts, T. McElyea 2 pts.
