Student-athletes at Eatonville High School are winners in the classroom as well as the playing arena. Thirty-eight individuals and six teams received state or league academic honors for the fall interscholastic sports season that ended last month. The WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association) Outstanding Scholastic Award was presented to the Cruisers' volleyball , whose members fit the award's criteria by posting a combined grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or better. The WIAA's Distinguished Scholastic Award, which is for teams with composite GPAs of 3.0 to 3.49, went to the boys tennis, boys cross country, girls cross country, girls soccer and swim teams. The soccer squad was making its mark academically while also winning the Nisqually League championship. Eatonville's cheerleaders and band also received the Outstanding Scholastic Award. Those activities also are governed at the state level by WIAA. The Cruisers compete in the Nisqually League, and 38 of them were named Nisqually Scholar Athletes for earning a 3.5 GPA or better while also earning a varsity letter in their fall sport. They include Garrett Ames, Zach Ames, Mikaela Anderson, David Bacher, Aria Beaupre, Emily Boettcher, Isaac Boettcher, Justin Brandt, Heidi Brankline, Hanna Bridgham, Mason Call, Jacquelyn Christoph, Eli Evanson-Silva, Cassidy Forler, Brianna Forsyth, Samantha Gacke, Alexa Graddy, Machaela Graddy, Julianne Golding, Autumn Holt, Kirk Huse, Sarah Litzenberger, Robbi Schubkegel, Anna Speights, Delainey Trimble, Lauren Pate, Emily Padgett, Chayton Quaranto, Alyssa Ricketts, Mia Snyder, Mandalyn Swinney, Olivia Patterson, Halley Maida, Alexis Waters, Tess Upchurch, KK Voss, Connor Wienholz and Hunter Young. The league and WIAA honors are part of the academic success within Eatonville's athletics program. Maryann Baker, coach of the boys tennis team, noted that in her sport alone, "there are many more junior varsity players that turn out the entire season and also have GPAs of 3.5 and above.GÇ¥ Baker credited the school's teachers and "our athletes that are passionate about their sport and also strive for high academics.GÇ¥
