The current coordinators of the Daffodil Festival Eatonville community float have decided to continue organizing the annual parade entry for this year, but are seeking new organizers to take over beginning 2024.

Initially, coordinators Sarah Cole and her husband, Brad, wanted to step down before the Daffodil Festival on April 1, but decided to stay on as organizers through this year to ensure the community has a parade float entry. They are looking for a new coordinator to take over for the 2024 celebrations.

This year’s Daffodil Festival theme is “90 Years Around the Sound.”

Sarah Cole said, for the float to be ready for the festival, she needs help building it. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the Eatonville High School main office at 360-879-1200, or email Ruth Beckwith, EHS Daffodil Princess advisor, at r.beckwith@eatonville.wednet.edu.

Cole said, for Eatonville to continue its community Daffodil Festival tradition, it must participate by entering a float in the parade and elect a princess each year. Sarah Cole also stated that Eatonville must participate in the Daffodil Parade each year in order to continue to elect princesses in the future.

Parade entry rules are:

• Each float must be 9 feet in length, 6 feet in width and 6 feet in height.

• The float must be driven by a motorized vehicle that is powerful enough to carry the weight, or it can be pulled by a motorized vehicle like a trailer.

• The most essential requirement is the number of daffodils on the float. There must be a minimum of 2,000 fresh daffodils on the float. They cannot be artificial.

• Each float must represent the year’s theme.

Cole said community members can make cash donations at the Eatonville High School main office, with checks made out to EHS with the word “daffodil” written on the memo line. In-kind donations are welcome once the coordinators have established material needs.
